MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Westwood invites you to attend 2016 Canstruction ® Minneapolis at the rotunda in Mall of America in Bloomington, MN September 24-26. Westwood is chairing the event as well as sponsoring a team.

This weekend, nine local architecture and design firms will be building sculptures out of canned goods, competing for a variety of awards, such as Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, and People’s Choice. All of the food will benefit Second Harvest Heartland food bank to combat hunger in our community. Each sculpture will be unique, with some teams doing tribute to Minnesota celebrities and landmarks, while others tell inspiring stories about the importance of quality nutrition. These structures are made of thousands of cans each.

The teams will be building on September 24 during Mall hours, and judging will take place on September 25 with a public award ceremony at 1 pm. The jury selected to decide the winners includes food bank representatives, chefs, artists, and architects. The 2016 judges are Jack Amdal of Studio 55 Architects, Carey Brendalen of Alliiance, Colleen Dockendorf of Ryan Companies, who is also on the executive board for Second Harvest, Dan Miles, a chef at Chino Latino, and Minnesota artists Dean Trisko and Timothy Trost. Presenting the awards is Danika Larson, president of Society for Design Administration.
