Westwood's Minneapolis-based transportation service leader, Steve Manhart, was recognized as a Distinguished Member of North Central Section Institute of Transportation Engineers (NCITE) last night, November 16th, at the NCITE Annual Meeting and Banquet. This is the highest honor awarded by NCITE, recognizing Steve’s longstanding, notable, and exemplary service to the Section over 25 years of membership.

Steve has served NCITE in a number of roles and on a variety of local and national committees. In 2001, Steve was the Section’s president, and later served as District Director on the International Board of Direction for the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). Steve says, “Of the service to NCITE for which I am most proud is our commitment to certification that we began in 2001.” ITE had just begun offering the Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification exam. NCITE was one of the first sites to offer the exam and jumped to having one of the highest number of PTOEs in the nation. “That support for certification remains strong today.”  Steve is not only a certified PTOE, but also holds the Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification, as well.

“This honor is well deserved,” says Westwood’s Land Division VP, Bryan P. Powell, P.E. “Steve’s commitment to the transportation engineering profession and NCITE is laudable. Westwood is privileged in having such outstanding professionals on the team.”

The number of Distinguished Members is limited to 3% of the total Section membership. Due to recent growth, Steve will become the ninth Distinguished Member. He is exempt from further annual dues and any special assessments.
