Strategic Surveying of Dense Urban Infrastructure and Utilities

The St. Paul Saints minor league baseball team partnered with the City of St. Paul on this $63 million, 7,200-seat project to build CHS Field in the vibrant Lowertown neighborhood of St. Paul. The site was a tight spot that bordered Interstate 94 and needed retrofitting against an existing Metro Transit building.

Because of this urban location, the site was heavy with existing utilities and required utility mapping of electric, gas, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water, and fiber optics. Having worked with our client on many short turn-around projects before, collaboration was a continual process to accommodate tight timelines.

Stepping Up Safety in Heavy Construction

Like most projects where locations are tight on space and tight on schedule, the Westwood team coordinated many moving parts to keep the project on track and to deliver within a short time frame. This urban construction site was highly interactive with heavy equipment and a multitude of contractors, so safety was a number one concern in coordinating survey crews with the various moving parts.
