Overview

These two school projects involved the ground-up construction of entirely new school campuses within the athletic fields of existing, aging schools. The team completed onsite grading, drainage, paving, and stormwater management design for both campuses, which included buildings, parking lots, track, and outdoor sports fields, as well as necessary improvements to surrounding roadways and utilities in order to support the new facilities.

School and Construction are Both in Session

The team’s engineers worked with the architect to develop a site plan and phased onsite construction documents that would facilitate the construction of the new schools throughout the ongoing operation of the existing schools. The abandonment of certain utilities within the proposed new footprints needed to be carefully coordinated to have minimal impact on the existing schools.

For Shea Middle School, the team also did extensive measuring and modeling of the various school buses to ensure that every bus could handle the topography of the drop-off/loading areas.
