To bring new life to a busy block, Westwood got involved with this luxury mixed-use development in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Located near the Xcel Energy Center, the development includes a six-story residential building with 13,000 SF of retail space on the ground floor as well as a hotel.
Redeveloping a Site with a Century of History
The city of St. Paul was established in the 1850’s and has gone through many development trends. This project site was long the home to Seven Corners Hardware, however in 2014 the store closed its doors. The site is in the heart of St. Paul, near the Xcel Energy Center and more, and the client wanted to create a neighborhood of lively pedestrian activity while showcasing all that St. Paul had to offer.
Because of the high-density development, the stormwater treatment basins were built underground in a small footprint. Large-diameter pipes were used to infiltrate stormwater runoff from the site. Additionally, Westwood’s team needed to accommodate the site’s steep 20-foot grade change.
