New River Shop
- Permitting Support
Careful Collaboration to Meet Floodplain Regulations
This 5,000-SF shop is situated on five acres in Maricopa County. The site required careful collaboration with the county to ensure the project would meet or exceed floodplain regulations with respect to protecting the building from a 100-year flood, eliminating any increase in the floodwater level, and ensuring that the shop’s displacement of stormwater would not affect downstream properties. Special design considerations included channelizing the stormwater to control flow speed and levels, installing “smart vents” in the building walls to equalize flood water pressure, and minimizing disturbances to existing site grades.
Multiple In-House Services Resolve Existing Issues
In addition to flood plain permitting assistance, Westwood provided permitting support for the building and septic system construction. Also provided were boundary and topographic surveying services, civil site design, septic system design, and hydrology analysis. Westwood’s project manager played a key role in supporting the client to resolve existing issues with the county regarding the site.
Westwood’s previous work with the client led to being awarded this additional project.
