Middleton Operations Center MGE Shared Solar

The Middleton Operations Center is located less than a mile away from Westwood’s Madison office and can easily be seen from the US-12 highway. The project is the first in the new Shared Solar program for Madison Gas and Electric (MGE). Shared Solar allows residents in MGE’s service territory to participate in solar-generated electricity without installing their own solar panels. The 500-kWac project has seen enormous interest from the community.
The team at Westwood’s Madison office worked closely with the client, project owner, and building owner to provide electrical engineering design solutions that addressed the operational and aesthetic concerns of the stakeholders. For example, one such concern was minimizing the number of roof penetrations made to the building’s roof, which was relatively new. The engineering team coordinated the layout and circuit routing with H&H Solar to limit the number of penetrations needed. Altogether, the project was designed and operational within four months.
Working with H&H, MGE, and the City of Middleton through the Shared Solar program, Westwood helped to expand the use of solar energy in the Madison area.
