Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Permitting Specialist with demonstrated experience and knowledge of renewable energy facility development and permitting within the wind and/or solar energy markets throughout the U.S. to join our team in our Minneapolis or Denver office. The candidate will serve a senior permitting role in the environmental services group. The person in this role will manage projects, develop work scopes and proposals, help compile and draft permit applications, attend client meetings, interact with technical design professionals, and mentor junior staff. The candidate should have knowledge of a variety of federal and state environmental regulations and permit processes and related technical studies, as well as siting and routing of renewable and transmission projects, greenfield assessment of project areas, state and local permitting (site permits, route permits, conditional use permits, etc.), environmental review, wildlife and natural resource assessments, cultural resource assessments, and related data analysis and impact determination. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with renewable energy project development and  permitting of utility-scale wind and/or solar facilities, and high voltage transmission lines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental reviews (federal NEPA and equivalent state programs), state site and route permit processes and applications, associated federal and state regulatory programs and permits, environmental and cultural resources desktop and field investigations, and construction-related federal/state/local approvals is essential.
  • The successful candidate will be highly organized, strong communication skills, and have superior project management, writing, researching, time management, and related project skills.
  • This position requires the ability to work with a variety of clientele and partnering consultants to help draft successful permit applications and maintain flexibility to manage project change. The position includes a mix of task management, writing, and technical document quality assurance/quality control review.   
  • Key tasks include researching and preparing a variety of permit applications, participating in client meetings, working with internal staff to coordinate various pieces of the applications.
