- Stormwater Treatment System
Westwood provided surveying, engineering, and stormwater treatment design services for FedEx’s Smartpost distribution facility expansion in Fargo, North Dakota. A previous working relationship with the client ensured them that Westwood would meet the tight deadlines required for the project.
The Fargo area has unique and strict stormwater requirements due to its location in the floodplain of the Red River Valley. Stormwater regulations therefore differ significantly from typical municipal requirements. Westwood’s experience working within many cities allowed the team to pull from creative solutions in other areas and apply them to this project.
Validating Old Data
The existing building had been expanded several times prior to this project. Information provided from previous projects was not always current, requiring additional time and diligence by the project team to verify so that plans could be generated accurately.
Staging for Unrestricted Traffic Flow
Utilities for the project were addressed during the design phase to ensure they did not impede FedEx truck drive areas. Throughout construction, work was staged to allow for unrestricted FedEx operations and truck movement into and out of building bays. Uninterrupted FedEx operations were a vital requirement of the job, which required careful planning and project management by Westwood’s project team.
