Land Surveying

for Power Projects

Having worked on some of the largest renewable energy and electric utility projects in the US, Westwood surveyors are known for their responsiveness and high-quality service, regardless of project size or complexity. We’ve been surveying since 1986, so we know the value of a well-done land survey, but we are also always looking for ways to spice things up in the survey world, trying new technology and collaborating across disciplines to find processes that improve our data collection and communication.

ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys

It’s the things we can’t see that often create the most risk: lease boundaries, setbacks, existing easements, and underground utilities, to name a few. ALTA/NSPS land title surveys identify many of these, and while required for most development projects, the knowledge gathered is invaluable, going a long way towards mitigating risk and project pitfalls. From 2-acre sites to 100-section or more development areas, our qualified surveyors support pre- and post-construction ALTA surveys, as well as the transaction.

Construction Staking

Staking with high-accuracy according to design plans and construction specifications is the name of the game when it comes to sites having hundreds of turbines, structures, access roads, right-of-way limits, and project facilities. Knowledgeable staff armed with the best resources get the job done.

Topographic Surveys

Planes, helicopters, drones, and conventional land survey methods each have unique advantages for gathering topographic data dependent on site-specific conditions. Westwood’s land survey and aerial mapping team work together to determine which method is best suited for your project.

Meet the Team Leader
Chris Hoglund, PS, CFedS
Director, Geospatial Operations

"Born and raised in Minnesota, I have truly come to love the defined seasons this state has to offer. As much as I complain about the cold in the winter and the mosquitos in the summer, my family and I make the most of the outdoors. With my wife and three children, we enjoy fishing (water and ice), camping (year round), swimming, walks with the dog, and spending time with friends and family. Getting outside is also a great part of my job."
