The position is for a lead electrical engineer to design battery energy storage systems (BESS), which includes: site electrical design, power conversion system (PCS) and battery management system (BMS) integration, medium and high voltage interconnection design, auxiliary power systems, protection and control schemes, and being the client and internal leader for the electrical engineering of projects. As Lead Electrical Engineer, the individual will coordinate with the Westwood Service Leaders and Director of Electrical Engineering to maintain firm standards and consistency as well as oversee other electrical designers. This position may also include supervision responsibilities of direct reports for timesheet/expense/PTO approval, annual growth planning, disciplinary actions, and compensation annual adjustments.

Substation Designer –Structural

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented Substation Designer – Structural, to join a growing energy consulting firm. The substation designer would work with our growing Substation Engineering Team to prepare structural detail drawings for high voltage utility substations projects and renewable energy interconnections. The position would require the employee to work with engineers and consultants to create these drawings.


Duties and Responsibilities:Computer aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables. Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.

Typical drafting is that of: 

- Foundation Layout Plans 

- Steel Structure Fabrication Drawings 

- Concrete Foundation Detail Drawings 

- Oil Containment Detail Drawings 

- Metal Grate Platforms Detail Drawings 

- Fire Wall Detail Drawings 

- Importation of tables and calculations such as BOMs as well as creating notes to be applied to each drawing.

  • Self-checks all work performed to ensure its accuracy prior to turning it over to the supervisor or designee assigned to review the work.
  • Understand & meet project schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Complete drawings accurately and efficiently.
  • Detailed and quality oriented.
  • Able to handle multiple projects concurrently and maintain flexibility to changes in work assignments as changes occur in projects.
  • Actively assist in the delivery of a complete project. This may include phone or e-mail correspondence, attending meetings, and other project documents required for project completion.
  • Provide interdepartmental support as required.
