Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Structural Engineer – Substations to join our team. The Civil Structural Engineer serves as the civil engineer for electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. He/she will apply NESC, ASCE, and other applicable codes and standards in the engineering design and will independently produce steel structure designs and concrete foundation designs associated with rigid and strain bus configurations, foundation layouts, oil containment designs, metal grate platform designs, and fire wall designs. He/she will assist the lead substation engineer in creating the general arrangement and conduit and grounding plans, and will review site plans for correctness prior to submission to local/federal authorities for permit approval. This would require an understanding of standard practices for erosion and sediment control and stormwater management. He/she will also work with other internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones and expectations of contracted services are met. Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking seasonal/temporary full-time Wetland Scientists / Biologists based out of our Minnetonka, MN office for the 2026 field season. Westwood is an environmental, permitting, engineering and surveying firm that provides services nationwide for the development of renewable energy and land development projects. 


  

The qualified individuals will provide field wetland delineation services to support the planning, design, and approvals of site improvements for wind and solar energy projects as well as residential and commercial land development projects across the United States. This position is expected to be staffed from Mid-April to Late October, with potential to expand into a full-time permanent position. This position will primarily conduct field wetland delineations and other field-based surveys, working with other members of Westwood’s experienced Wetland Delineation staff. Responsibilities will include:

  • Initial desktop-level research (photo-review, soils maps, hydrology)
  • Onsite routine field wetland delineations across the country 
  • Attend onsite regulatory wetland review meetings as required
  • Groundwater monitoring well inspections
  • Technical report preparation

Travel: The position will involve frequent travel. Travel obligations will include multiple-day mobilizations of 3-10 days with some overnights. Multiple mobilizations each month of varying timeframes will be required.

The Substation Designer would work with our growing Substation Engineering Team to prepare schematic and associated wiring diagrams for high voltage utility substations projects and renewable energy interconnections. The position would require the employee to work with engineers and consultants to create these drawings. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Computer aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
  • Typical CAD Design is that of functional electrical drawings as shown below.
  • Operations Diagrams
  • Single Line Drawings
  • Three Line Drawings
  • Current and Potential Schematics
  • Protection and Control Schematics
  • Communication Schematics
  • Alarm Schematics
  • Associated Wiring Diagrams (Point to Point Translation)
  • Importation of tables and calculations such as BOMs as well as creating notes to be applied to each drawing.
