The position is responsible for managing the electrical engineering of commercial and utility-scale solar projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be the primary electrical contact for clients and will oversee the electrical design budget for projects to ensure budgets are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage the electrical engineering of commercial and utility-scale solar projects, ensuring adherence to project budgets.
• Verify the incorporation of contractual electrical engineering scope into design and coordinate change orders with project managers.
• Insure project deliverable schedules for electrical engineering scope are met.
• Assist project managers in responding to RFPs by preparing proposal scope and fees for the electrical engineering.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines, including civil engineers, geotechnical/structural engineers, and surveyors.
• Schedule and plan necessary resources needed to support projects on a weekly basis.
• Perform and lead electrical engineering design and creation of construction documents for projects.
• Oversee project electrical team resources and be responsible for staff performing electrical calculations and studies.
• Coordinate with clients, utilities, and code enforcement officers.
• Perform QA/QC of design work performed on projects for which you are the lead electrical engineer.
• Maintain awareness of currently available equipment and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with and support electrical engineering teams in other offices as projects and workload sharing between offices dictates.
• Support construction of projects by responding to contractor and owner requests, including RFIs and submittal review.
• Assist Market Directors as needed for marketing efforts and creation of marketing materials surrounding electrical engineering work.
• Supervise, train, and mentor graduate engineers, staff engineers, and design technicians.

Electrical Staff Engineer

The position is for an electrical engineer to support interconnection and design of EV charging facilities and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Facilities, which includes: BESS sites layout, EV charger site layout, selecting and sizing appropriate distribution/collection equipment and conductors, and determining interconnection requirements. The primary function of this role is to lead the Substation P&C Engineering and Design efforts for large scale, transmission-interconnected renewable energy projects. The P&C Engineer will work with (and provide direction to) other engineers, designers, and drafters to develop project deliverables that satisfy all stakeholder requirements and comply with applicable codes & standards. Senior Electrical Studies Engineer

A senior electrical studies engineer at Westwood plays a pivotal role in the design and optimization of utility-scale renewable plants, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. The focus of the senior electrical studies engineer is on performing comprehensive electrical system studies, ensuring compliance with interconnection requirements and seamless integration of renewable assets into the power grid, as well as mentoring and guiding junior studies engineers.

• Work with lead design engineers and clients to develop electrical models and studies to support the project design process.
• Develop detailed system models that accurately represent the plant in design and perform a variety of studies, including short circuit and effective grounding, load flow and reactive power, harmonics, insulation coordination, power and energy loss, concentric neutral induced voltage, arc flash, grounding, lightning risk assessments, and transient studies for switching and overvoltage.
• Produce written reports conveying study results within the project schedule.

The Manager of Systems Studies leads the execution and technical oversight of power system studies for renewable generation facilities, including solar, wind, and energy storage projects. This role is responsible for managing and growing a team of engineers performing steady state and transient simulations, ensuring technical excellence, consistency, and timely project delivery. 

Leadership & Team Management

• Assist with the leadership and management of a growing team of electrical engineers performing electrical modeling and analysis for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Oversee direct reports and support team growth and interaction.
• Mentor junior engineers and support professional development within the systems studies team.
• Assist the Sr. Manager, Systems Studies with day-to-day project oversight and coordination, workload delegation, problem solving, and team leadership.

Technical Leadership & Quality

• Coordinate with project managers, protection engineers, equipment vendors, and clients to ensure alignment of study scope and technical assumptions.
• Provide technical oversight and QA/QC for all dynamic modeling and EMT analysis deliverables.
• Develop, review, and validate power system models for renewable facilities, including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.
• Oversee routine electrical studies in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ETAP and perform such studies as necessary to assist with team bandwidth.
• Assist with enforcing internal modeling standards, best practices, and quality control procedures.

Business Development

• Assist with business development efforts by contributing to proposals, technical scoping, and client presentations.
