As a director, a deep understanding and proficiency in project management and engineering, your project management and engineering team, and building client relationships is essential to the job. The role requires project performance oversight for all water/wastewater clients and projects, oversight of the water/wastewater components of multidisciplinary internal projects and the ability to communicate corrective measures if required.
Team Management:
Leads a team of local service leads and project managers across Texas in building successful client relationships while providing mentorship, coaching, and career growth planning.
- Along with the local service leads, assigns project managers to clients and projects.
- Along with the local service leads, assigns phase managers to projects for internal clients.
- Sets performance goals for their team and provide feedback.
- Resolves conflict and takes corrective action.
- Participates in the hiring process by recruiting and interviewing market candidates.
- Strengthening the team’s leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a leadership style that aligns with those around them.
- Drives initiatives to ensure expected quality and delivery of services is performed.
- Assess project risks and evaluates opportunities via Go / No-Go metrics.
- Approves Invoices and ensures timely AR collections.
Client Relationships and Project Management:
As a director, a deep understanding and proficiency in project management and building client relationships is essential to the job. The role requires project performance oversight for all clients (internal and external) and projects, and the ability to communicate corrective measures if required.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders at municipalities, authorities, utilities, and relevant industry entities.
- Identifies key client relationships and develops strategies to ensure a successful outcome for projects delivered.
- Develop action plans and contingency plans to service the client base at a high level.
- Understands and develops long-term growth strategies with each client.
- Negotiates contractual agreements with support from the legal team.
- Serves as the source for escalation between client and Westwood teams.
- Identifies business risk and makes decisions in line with the market’s tolerance.
- Ensures the team has the appropriate management tools, techniques, and data to perform the financial and contractual obligations of the projects under management.
- Guides the project management team to understand client goals and objectives, contract types, project risks, scope, schedule, budget, and project closeout.
- Oversees the financial performance and execution of all projects within their client portfolio.
New Business Development and Opportunities:
A Director is responsible for the clients within their region and executing on their strategic plan for building the business within the market. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Seeks new business opportunities with new and existing clients.
- Coordinates with Division Leader to develop strategic plans and market objectives.
- Defines their team’s business development initiatives.
- Supports marketing efforts and represents Westwood at conferences and industry events.
- Oversees master service agreement pursuits.
- Negotiates contractual agreements with support from the legal team.
- Leads rate and fee structure negotiations.
- Evaluates how we do business with our clients, understanding their needs and buying preferences.
- Responsible for regularly evaluating the competition and our competitiveness in the market space.
- Identifies new or additional service offerings to be employed by the market.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
- PE license
- Demonstrate and support Westwood’s culture and core values.
- Direct experience in the management and design of water and wastewater projects.
- Experience developing and fostering client relationships.
- Good reputation amongst industry, peers, and clients.
- Self-motivated with the ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines without supervision.
