Westwood’s Jim Koch Retires

Headshot of Jim Koch Headshot of Jim Koch

The entire team at Westwood would like to congratulate Jim Koch, PE, RPLS, on his retirement. Jim is not only an accomplished engineer and surveyor but also a dedicated leader and mentor who has guided countless professionals throughout his career. His supportive and people-first style has shaped both project teams and client relationships, leaving a lasting mark on Westwood’s culture.

Jim joined Westwood in 2021 through the acquisition of Pacheco Koch (PK), a firm he co-founded in 1990 with Mark Pacheco. With an initial goal of growing to 15 people, PK exceeded expectations, expanding into a 250-person firm recognized across Texas and beyond. Together with a talented staff, Jim and Mark delivered more than 13,000 public infrastructure and private development projects throughout the south-central region of the U.S. The acquisition of PK brought new talent, leadership, and market strength to Westwood, while offering PK’s team national opportunities and a broader platform for growth. Westwood is grateful for the expertise and dedication Jim has contributed since that time.

Career Success

Jim graduated from the University of Missouri in 1982 and began a career in engineering and surveying that has spanned more than four decades. At Westwood, Jim served as Senior Director of Land, where he led site development and project management initiatives across commercial markets. His strategic oversight helped the organization navigate complex design challenges, municipal permitting processes, and client engagement strategies.

Mentorship and relationships have always been central to Jim’s work. He often reflects: “People like to do business with people they like.” That philosophy guided his approach to client service and his commitment to supporting younger professionals as they developed their own careers.

As a Professional Engineer, Jim is registered in multiple states, and a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in Texas. A Westwood shareholder, he brought expertise in site development, land title surveys, and right-of-way projects while championing technical excellence and client success.

The Next Chapter

After 42 years in the industry, Jim is looking forward to a well-earned retirement. He plans to spend time traveling, golfing, biking, and most importantly, enjoying life with his five grandchildren, family, and friends.

Jim, on behalf of the entire Westwood team, we wish you a wonderful retirement and every success in this exciting next chapter!
